Charity Golf Day 2023

A roaring success and fun day out for all.

The all electric Sealegs that nearly delivered refreshments to players on the course throughout play.

A little rain was not going to get in the way of a massively successful day.

64 Keen golfers took part in this fundraiser to support the maintenance of the 50 plus AEDs around Waiheke Island, Hato Hone St John Waiheke Island and other Waiheke Rotary community initiative grants throughout the year.

The day started with rain showers putting the the event in jeopardy, along with a delay on the Devonport ferry. Only 2 registered players failed to make it, what a feat.

The event was delayed 20 minutes, but the starters horn got everyone away in overcast, damp conditions miraculously with smiles all around.

Unfortunately the course was too wet for the all electric Sealegs to deliver refreshments, some might call this a dry day on a wet course. Not too dry though. Sponsors put on some great side events, with Wild on Waiheke offering archery and refreshments at their hole. Bayleys provided a shot of Baileys on their par 3 and Rothburys offered a selection of drinks too, making the bottom end of the course a popular area indeed. The Rotary BBQ provided some sustenance for all along the course too.

Everyone was in with a chance to win on the day, with "straightest drive", "closest to the hole", "best shot", "worst shot" and just about any other invented prizes up for grabs.

20 minutes after the final team came in, the skies opened. Tommy Pickett provided music while scores were tallied and unwitnessed great shots were recounted.

The prizegiving and auction were MCed by Jeremy Elwood with much humour and good bids.

Check out the photo album of the golf day and the winners of the fishing trip.

Waiheke Rotary received much support from businesses and individuals across the island. This successful fundraising event will allow the Rotary Club of Waiheke to continue with projects in the local community, including:

  • Support and maintenance of the 50 plus AEDs around the island

  • St Johns Waiheke

  • Other Waiheke Rotary community initiative grants throughout the year

Waiheke Rotary greatly appreciates the support of all sponsors and wish to thank:
